ABOUT EMICUS
Emicus.com is a website produced and managed by the U.S. Emergency Operations Center, Inc. (USEOC). At USEOC our vision is to create web sites and mobile applications that help people during disasters. Our first site is Emicus.com, a web platform where people can receive and share critical disaster information. We believe that by better facilitating information sharing during disasters, we can minimize the impact of the disaster and ultimately save lives.
The vision for Emicus.com arose out of Hurricanes Katrina, Wilma and Ike. It was during those storms that our founders saw the power of communities coming together and the problems that were caused by information gaps. Thus, Emicus.com was designed to be an open platform that aggregates information from a variety of sources (government, NGOs and businesses), where users can actively participate and share information. In fact, the name Emicus is a combination of emergency (em) and friend in Latin (amicus).
Our team includes a mix of experienced emergency managers and planners, technology and web design experts, journalists, and legal and business professionals. Our offices are located in Seattle, WA and we have staff in San Francisco, CA and Coral Springs, FL.
